Sweet Gums

We took out a row of mature Sweet Gums today that had been topped several years ago…topping is virtually never something an arborist would recommend because it severely weakens or even kills the tree. All four of the Sweet Gums were rotted out in their main stems where they had been topped, as seen here. The topped leaders had formed large, deep cavities and were hollowed out inside.
